Liverpool Biennial

For ’08, MADEUP, the 5th edition of Liverpool Biennial, commissions around forty exciting new artworks by leading international artists of a scale and ambition not to be found elsewhere in the UK. Many of the new works will be situated in public spaces throughout Liverpool, commissioned in partnership with Tate Liverpool, The Bluecoat, FACT and Open Eye. Hundreds of the best British artists compete for accolade through the John Moores 25 Contemporary Painting Prize (20 September - 4 January ’09) at the Walker Art Gallery. Fine art students and recent graduates from across the UK also submit their work for the Bloomberg New Contemporaries exhibition. Additional exhibitions presented through a thriving independent scene will make Liverpool the focus for contemporary arts in Britain, attracting an estimated 500,000 visitors.
