Where Alfred the Great's daughter ruled an Anglo Saxon kingdom. Where Hugh the Wolf - nephew of William the Conqueror - and a blood thirsty Norman battle-lord built a strong hold. Where and when Cromwell's troops and Royalist forces clashed in the Civil War.
