Natural Northwest
Picture England’s Northwest and it may
surprise you to learn that 80% of the region is green and pleasant
land. Aside from the cosmopolitan cities of Liverpool and
Manchester, England’s Northwest is home to a multitude of
landscapes supporting a myriad of plants and animals. From the
rolling Cheshire plain to wild and rugged Scafell Pike, and from
rare red squirrels to swathes of swaying daffodils, this is one of
the most naturally diverse regions of England.
Boasting England’s largest National Park,
three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and over 1000 kilometres
of magnificent coastline, there are plenty of opportunities to
discover and explore this inspiring corner of
England.
As well as the world-famous Lake District with
England’s highest peak and longest lake, here you’ll find the
Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, full of
exceptional heather moorland, blanket bog and rare birds such as
Hen Harriers. Martin Mere is the spot for spectacular bird
migrations, Formby Point one of the last outposts of the rare red
squirrel and the meres and mosses of Cheshire form part of an
internationally important habitat unique to the Northwest.
