Arts, Culture & Music
As you would expect in the region that gave birth to the modern
city, England’s Northwest has its own take on culture. It’s not a
case of high brow or low brow, alternative or mainstream - in
England’s Northwest all shades of the cultural spectrum coexist in
inventive and eccentric ways.
We call it liveable culture - culture that’s ‘always on’.
England’s Northwest is home to a diverse range of people and it’s
that special mix of heritage and cultures that has organically
evolved into a unique range of experiences.
In music, fashion, sport and art, people in the Northwest have a
natural tendency to see how far they can push it - exploring the
boundaries of what can be achieved. It’s this that drives the
remarkable impact that the region has had on not just its own, but
the nation’s culture.
The health of the Northwest’s cultural life can be seen from a
quick glance through the region’s ‘what’s on’ list. From the 2009
Manchester International Festival to Lakes Alive in Cumbria, not to
mention the myriad gigs, performances and events across the year;
there is plenty to keep England’s Northwest buzzing all year
long.
That’s what we mean by liveable culture. It’s always - and we
mean always! - on. You will always find something happening
(usually with a quirk...) in England’s Northwest.
